Bad Credit
Having bad credit is costly. Not only does it exclude you from being able to get many loans, as already mentioned it also increases the costs of a debt consolidation loan that you might be offered. If you have not checked your credit report lately, this would be an excellent time to do so.
The best type of credit report to obtain is one that contains information from all three credit bureaus. This allows you, at a glance, to see your overall credit situation. What you need to look for are either items that are being reported with a negative or bad repayment history, or items on your credit report that are not yours.
If you find items on your credit report that you do not recognise or are clearly not yours then you might be a victim of identity theft. However, if you see negative items reported with past due balances or in collections, the best way to end this negative credit is to pay the old debts off. While the past negative history will remain on your credit report, the fact that those debts are no longer outstanding will help to improve your credit.
Avoidable bad credit or correctable bad credit plagues many people. It can be easily corrected but just takes a little time and a lot of diligence. You will notice that once you are able to eliminate the open and outstanding past due debts that your credit report and credit score will greatly improve in the next six months.
Debt Consolidation
The best use of a debt consolidation loan is to allow you to payoff other debts and using a new loan, have one monthly payment and lender to deal with. By either reducing the collective interest rate charges or extending out the length of the loan the monthly payment you are currently paying can be significantly reduced. As long as you don’t go further into debt, and concentrate on repaying your new loan, you can find the current stress reduced, the debt situation pulled back from the abyss and a happier future at hand.
On the other hand, if you simply go out and run up more debt you will find yourself overextended, on the brink of disaster again and living a life full of more worry and stress.
