Not a huge article but just wanted to share this observation with you. It did not escape me that our old friends at Debt Free Direct (DFD) have announced a name change to Fairpoint.

It is interesting to see them divest themselves into a broad range of financial products and services, including the sale of credit products. It would be exceedingly difficult to do that under a name that included debt and free. The new Fairpoint site says “At Fairpoint we develop and operate consumer financial services businesses.”

While I was checking out the new website at fairpoint.co.uk I was a bit intrigued that the operational board is made up of five people, four of which came from Debt Free Direct recently acquired Clear Start pedigree.

Also of interest was that the same people have a very strong heritage of working on the creditor side of the business. The lineage includes Egg, GE Money, Capital One and Zurich Financial Services.

I’m not criticizing the move and change but it does make me wonder how they could be a consumer advocate in the future when it appears they are morphing and moving house to become a fully fledged member of the creditor side of the tracks.

It will be exceedingly interesting to see how they will promote credit and debt reduction at the same time moving forward. Can you really be everything to everyone? Hey, it's a fair point.
