Frankly I am getting a bit tired of talking about CCCS. I wish that news about them would stop appearing. I’ve got other things to do. So here is a quick snippet and then I’m off to work on OFT debt collection issues and bank avoidance of compliance with the guidelines.
The other day the Bankruptcy Advisory Service in the UK sent out a newsletter with an interesting little new tidbit in it.
Mail on Sunday Article
“We were interested to read the article in the Mail on Sunday regarding the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) and its chairman, Malcolm Hurlston.Mr. Hurlston had contacted us a couple of months before Christmas and advised us that CCCS were setting up a bankruptcy division, his opening question being “how do you make money out of bankruptcy?”
He was very keen to establish some form of ‘relationship’ with our organisation, however, we made it perfectly clear that we were completely independent and would always remain so.
His plans were (at least to us) totally unrealistic and we made it clear that we had concerns about the independence and advice provided by CCCS. The fact that CCCS were being funded to set up a new division to advice on bankruptcy, when they clearly have no in-depth knowledge of the subject astounded us.
We were further astounded a few weeks later when Hurlston issued a press release stating that we would be training CCCS counselors and handling casework for them!
We had certainly not agreed to either and that was made perfectly clear. He was forced to withdraw the press release.”
If you have any questions about the above story, please contact Joanne or Gill at the Bankruptcy Advisory Service. You will enjoy their photos on their site.
CCCS Article Pulled From This Is Money Website
I am told that as of this morning that the article that appeared in the Financial Mail last Sunday “Charity boss reaps profits from debt misery” about Malcolm Hurlston and CCCS has vanished off the Website. I’m sure there is a new story behind that development. Curious. I wonder if it vanished from the printed copies of the paper as well?
I know it was there becuase I even wrote an article about it.
