Since the weather is what is dominating the news lately, that and the coup the Labour Party attempted, I thought of the two, the snow and weather were far more interesting.

In the area where I live the snow and ice was so bad all public transport, short of the trains, stopped!

The city was in essence closed; all the shops, many of the pubs, (that one was tough to believe), just about everything was closed; except for the chippys and some locals.

In my area this was in part due to the amount of snow we received and the fact it was bitter cold and ice was on the sidewalks and roadways.

The other factor was there was no grit or gritters out.

So the streets were basically impassable and anyone walking, including yours truly, took the chance of winding up on their bums from the ice on the walkways.

I read where it will cost this area millions of Pounds in loss of custom, business, etc and it may not be able to ever recover this. I had read somewhere the amount was £50 million, but that seemed high to me.

As the economy is not the best, they say getting better, but still down, my mind wonders how this will all play out?

The city has been like this, virtually shut down, for almost three (3) days.

What do I see this will do for the future:

An increase in compensation claims for one; there have been so many accidents.

This, in time, would cause an increase in our auto insurance.

I also feel we may see Council Taxes raised to meet the demand of what the City has lost, in part again due to compensation claims as there were no precautions taken such as gritting the roads.

And lastly, a loss of some smaller, private businesses that were just hanging on and being closed these days and no one about will push them over the edge.

Not that it is all gloom and doom; I did see many children out playing and sledding in the snow with their parents and everyone was just making the best of the situation.

Also, the auto repair shops will see an increase in business due to the repairs needed because of the accidents.

Always a bright side.
