It has been a busy time in the news recently with the earthquake that hit Haiti, and also new security issues at airports since someone tried to set off a bomb on a flight to Detroit in America.

From a financial standpoint both of these incidents has huge implications.

The relief effort to Haiti will cost a fortune and the loss of life and business there is probably un-measurable.

Who knows how long it will be before there is some sort of normality there again.

If you look at what happened in New Orleans a few years ago with the flooding and destruction, things are yet 100% and may never be.

The same could be with Haiti.

As for the new security issues to be addressed, this will be costly as more Sky Marshalls will be hired to be on flights, new technology will be purchased and used in scanning passengers, and also the training involved.

I am not complaining about either of these issues, just looking at the costs involved and where will the money come from?
The issue of funding additional security on flights may very well come from all of us as passengers with increased air fares.

As long as it is safe, I’m OK with it costing a bit more.

As for the Haitian relief effort, I have seen donation requests on many web sites and also have heard of some form of concert or celebrity gathering, to have people donate to.

With many people still experiencing their own personal financial issues, it will be interesting to see how it all works out.

I am hopeful it all will work out for the better.
