Credit Counselling

There is no such thing as ‘the best savings account’ because it is not as simple as one account with a great headline rate that’s best for all. But the good news is that it is possible to find the best savings account to suit you.
Frankly I am getting a bit tired of talking about CCCS. I wish that news about them would stop appearing. I’ve got other things to do. So here is a quick snippet and then I’m off to work on OFT debt collection issues and bank avoidance of compliance with the guidelines.
A rather alarming story appeared in the Mail on Sunday today regarding Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) in the UK and its position on Individual Voluntary Arrangements. The online article stated “But Financial Mail has learned that CCCS might not be as independent as it boasts and could be obtaining revenue from possibly ' inappropriate' advice given to debt-ridden clients.”
Not a huge article but just wanted to share this observation with you. It did not escape me that our old friends at Debt Free Direct (DFD) have announced a name change to Fairpoint.
In every country and all the time the argument about consumers should only seek help for financial help from groups that don’t charge a fee, is crap.
This has been going on for quite a while but when I was handed this letter recently it reminded me to write about it. And now that Myvesta has launched our new legal protection plan for consumers, we'll take action on this and bring it to the attention of the Office of Fair Trading as well.
I figure that when I write I share a bit of myself so I wanted to bring you inside my reversal of a position on debt assistance and consumer debt help. What once many felt was right, is no longer so.

Death to Debt Management in the UK

If you’ve read any of my articles by now you might find that I love a good headline. And while Death to Debt Management might seem a bit tabloid, with recent news, it’s not that crazy.
An article this past Saturday had a title that caught my eye, “Debt charity demands watchdogs stop the imposters.” But what made me chuckle is that CCCS in the UK liberated the CCCS name from the US, without permission. Oh how I do love irony.
Recent massive changes in how credit counselling in the US is regulated should be of importance to groups in the UK. Here is a press release regarding the summary of changes.
