Can I rent a property while in an IVA?

Postby ScattyT on 14 Jul 2008, 10:03

Hi! I've been in an IVA for about a year and am currently living with my parents! I now want to rent a property with my boyfriend as was wondering if anybody knows if my IVA will affect my ability to rent under joint names with my boyfriend! i won't be paying much more than I pay rent to my parents now!

Also do I need to tell a future landlord that I'm in an IVA?

Thanks alot

Hello

If the rent is about the same it shouldn't be a problem with the IVA.

From the other angle there's nothing to stop you renting a property, but most landlords run a credit check and won't be that impressed by an IVA. It might depend on the b/fs rating and look to see if he can afford it on his own, or they might ask for a guarantor.
