My Partners concerns?

Postby chadchandler on 11 Jun 2008, 16:40

My partner has some concerns about my bankruptcy.
I declared bankruptcy on the 26/07/2006 and have been discharged since 26/07/2007. My income payment order has just been cancelled because of changing circumstances and the Official Receiver has said that it cost more money to collect it than I'm paying.
Her concerns are -:
If we were to get a joint bank account would this affect her credit rating?
We are planning to get married and she is worried about taking my surname and if this will affect her in anyway?
Any help?
Many thanks in advance,
Chadchandler

chadchandler,

"If we were to get a joint bank account would this affect her credit rating?"

No. The only credit rating affected by your bankruptcy is yours. If you and your partner did not have joint debts before the bankruptcy then they will not be affected at all. The only reason why a joint bank account would not be granted is if the banks refuse the application due to not wishing to grant credit or overdraft facilities so soon out of bankruptcy.

Once your bankruptcy has been discharged you can obtain a copy of the discharge from the court where you filed for bankruptcy. The court can charge you £60 for this discharge form. Send copies of the discharge to the (3) three credit bureaus, Call Credit, Experian and Equifax, so they can update your credit files. In addition, opening a savings account and showing a regular pattern of savings, then requesting a current chequing account. In time, asking for a small overdraft, £50-£100. These small steps will help to re-establish your credit.

Again, no. Please read above answer regarding she would not be affected in any way shape or form if the debts were not joint. The bankruptcy was for your debts, thus will affect you.
