'Repairing' Credit Score

Postby slowlyrecovering on 25 Nov 2007, 12:32

I have been told that one way to begin repairing your credit score is to obtain a credit or store card soon after discharge. The idea is to use it very sparingly each month, say £10, and ensure that the balance is paid off each month.

Is this a good idea and if so does anyone know of an institution likely to issue a card after discharge. I accept that if there is one, the card would come with a low limit (no problem - I dont really want a credit card any more, I just want to improve my credit score) and a high interest rate. Or would it be any easier to get a store card.

The credit industry being what it is, there probably is someone out there who would give you a credit card; and if all else failed that someone may well be Provident Personal Credit's credit card outfit.

I couldn't comment if it would be a good idea or not, but I can certainly confirm that it comes with a high APR! 59.99% rings a bell...

Yikes!!!! Thats not an interest rate, thats Daylight Robbery! Thanks for the info Hg. As I said, if used to help build up my credit rating without incurring interest charges then it wont be a problem. Thanks again.

I think that it might take more than an occasional spend on a credit card to try and repair our credit rating. I think that we would need a miracle worker.

Remember that you may well have plenty of defaults and the BR on your credit file, so i think that you may be clutching at straws for a while. But I do understand what you are saying though mate. Just think its a wasted effort. But good luck any way.
