Savings A/Cs

Postby up the creek on 19 Sep 2008, 15:41

Hi

Have just had an early discharge from BR (still got an IPA to complete).

When i went BR i had savings a/cs with 6 bldg socs. Each a/c had approx £100 in each, i used some a/cs for budgeting & some a/cs i had not used for yrs.

I gave full dets of these a/cs on the BR forms & O/R told me he was going to take the money out of these a/cs & they would be frozen.

I have now contacted the bldg socs concerned to see if any of them would give me a savings a/c now i am discharged.

I have now found that the O/R only took the money from 3 of the a/cs (one was an ISA). All of the socs concerned have told me i can use the a/cs again on prod of my cert of discharge (the ISA provider has give me a new ISA with a diff a/c no.).

The other savings a/cs where never frozen & the money un-touched i tested them out by putting £10 in each & the transactions went through ok.

Am i ok to use these a/cs again or should i ask the O/R first (especially with regards to the a/cs missed).

Also someone told me that even when discharged the O/R can still take money & freeze/re-freeze a savings a/c up to 3 yrs from the orig BR date. Is this right as i don't want to get into trouble.

Thanks

Hello

The three year limit applies to houses. If the OR doesn't take a house within three years he can't.

However there isn't such a limit for other assets, there are the OR's for as long as it takes him to claim them.
