I am currently bankrupt and looking at joining the armed forces.I have the application etc and theres a few forms that obviously asking about bankruptcy i.e dates,reasons why etc.

Once discharged i understand that everything is back to normal apart from having a black mark against your name.How does the forces look at bankruptcy once discharged ?

Is it one of those "have you ever been made bankrupt" sort of questions? Or is it simply asking if you ARE currently bankrupt? If the latter then you would be in the clear once your bankruptcy year is up.

I know it's frowned upon, and that it can be career limiting where higher levels of security clearance are needed for something. I do know it's possible for people who are serving to go bankrupt, and in some circumstances the bankruptcy won't be advertised or their address will be withheld.

I'm afraid I don't know how terminal the nature of the frowning is if you're applying. I know the police approach varies with force from on discharge to three years after discharge.
