Update

Postby pete&kathy on 27 Jul 2006, 10:53

Hello..
Well we have both had our interviews with the OR now, mine was 4 hrs, business joint and my debt, pete's was 2 hours, not to bad, they where not scary at all, we have now moved and cut our general out going's all debt gone, life is a lot easier, bank account with the Co Op, who where great, pay as you go home phone, life is so much brighter...
Not easy though, when you go to shops you have to use cash, makes you feel a bit low, but thanks to Myvesta we also have the pay as you go credit card, so you don't feel so bad. Just be honest and you will be suprised how supportive people are.

Will keep you posted.

When you read stories like this, it makes you feel like you are not the only one. there are other people just in the same situation, with the same worries and fears.

I think this website is a real comfort for people like me and many more.

Well done.

Also thanks for keeping us posted on your story. All the best for the future xxxxxx

update

Postby pete&kathy on 22 Sep 2006, 13:57

Hello everyone,

Update for you, the OR has now past us over to a trustee, they are so helpful, One car gets collected tomorrow, house soon to be sold.
Both of us are so much more happy now, to be truthful we only pay the normal bills, have no debt worries, the phone has stopped ringing, the letters have stopped, we may even get a early discharge, so we have heard, will have to wait till we are 5 months into the bankruptcy to find out.
We are making sure we advise people we know about this site, so that they also get help and advice.
Reading the paper and seeing he percentage has gone up on bankruptcies is hard to see, but its far to easy to get credit.
Remember to ask yoourself if you can not afford something do you really need it.

Good luck everyone

Thanks so much to Myvesta

Hello everyone,

Things are still going good, A bit of a worry with Xmas on the door, but we know we can only get little things.

We have a question which may seem silly, but lady luck seems to be smiling down on us a little, Pete has been offered a great job in Dubai (tax free) rent etc..  paid for for 3 year's... how do we go about this while still being bankrupt.

Any help would be great...

Thanks

Hello everyone,

Quick update for you all,

Our Trustee contacted us with regards to a early discharge and advised us to contact our OR, which we have just done, they advised they have no problems and sent us some forms to fill in. They have wrote to our trustee and creditors and as long as there is no objections we could be discharged before Christmas.
Anyone can do this you just contact your OR and ask the question, "can I apply for early discharge ?"
They send you a income / outgoing papers to fill in, write to your creditors, if no objections after about 28 days then they apply to the courts for a early discharge.
Best to wait for aboput 5 months into your bankruptcy, Only if you know the OR has finnished investigating all your paper work.

So please keep your fingers crossed for us, this would be a great new year new start for us.

Thanks and good luck to everyone

Hi everyone,

Just to give you all a update -
Well its been 3 months now - discharged that is... and yes life is better... no debt, and no credit, but we don't need credit.
I have my back op in spring so hopefully back to work late summer. then we will have 2 wages - just imagine how much we can save then.
the co op have asked us to pop in have a chat - to see if we want a normal bank account now ??? yes but wedon't want a cheque book of overdraft, so really there is no need to change. But we will let you know.

Will pop in from time to time.

Thank you My Vesta and everyone who helped us on our way.

Hi everyone, Its been a while,

Just wanted to let you know we are both still 100% debt free, and life is getting better all the time.
I did Xmas shopping through out the year so we had money left for ourselves over Xmas and New year..
We have been pestered by a third party debt collector on behalf of a old creditor, but I just passed over our bankruptcy details and that's the end of it.
I would advise anyone to keep hold of the bankruptcy details and discharge details as these rats do pop up every so often.

Like I said just a quick check in.. but we are doing fine.
We just save for what we need, there is no need for credit anymore. Would be nice but not needed.

Once again thank you Myvesta and your team.. :D :D :D

Hi Pete and Kathy
Happy New Year! You seem to have broken the ice for 2009...
Began to wonder what has happened to this site following some kind of glitch in late November or early December....

I thought January was the worst time for divorces and bankruptcy decisions but not much activity on the latter front so far....

what is the reminder of the year 2009 going to bring?....

Well me and the misses have been discharged for almost a year now and its been wonderfull.
We can pick up the phone with out any worry at all. We bought a cheap caravan last year so that we could have at least a few days away with the kids, it was brilliant.

We have managed perfectly well with out any credit and dont plan to have any either.
Ok we still have to be carefull about money, but for the first time in many years we actually have some savings put by for a holiday or for an emergency.
Its still not easy as having a Coop cashminder account you Cannot go overdrawn, if you do go o/d more than twice, they will close your account for you :?

In the words of a Status Quo song, "The futures so bright I gotta wear shades"

I would say that Bankruptcy may not be for everyone, so please take some advice before you make up your mind.

Good luck to all.

i was made bankrupt on the 26th feb 2009 its a nightmare !
citizens advice , advice was all wrong that they gave me !
i was self employed on ebay they told me OR wouldnt be interested in my second hand goods ie videos etc WRONG! He called me and took the lot ! Refused to let me settle my fees with the money in paypal so my account was suspended and then told me i could start again from scratch once the nice men came and took all my stuff .So i did trying to see a positive side buying odds and ends with my tax credits as i was devastated when he told me to shut down immediately then ebay suspended that account too and froze that money too ! So now im sitting here absolutely broke bills took the last of my cash today i just dont know what to do ive got two little boys and i am trying i applied for an account with coop it was refused i joined another auction site havent sold a thing i just feel every where i turn there is a very solid brick wall if cab told me all this would happen i dont think i would have went through with it they even got the boys mountain bikes because they asked me to list them so they could get bigger ones i felt so crap as i told them same as cab told me NO they wont want your stuff so now i look like a liar into the bargain with my kids i couldnt appologise enough to them i cant see an end to this for us .If i could turn the clock back i would ! Bankruptsy should not be taken lightly i never seen it as an easy way out but i would never have done it if i knew this would happen to my family. I am a single mum so i dont realy have anyone to scream at i hide it from boys but not to well as i suffer from severe depression i found this site and i thought i`ll scream into oblivion .

Hi Jaylee

I am very sorry to hear of your horrible experience but what you describe about your possessions being taken away does not seem right.

Regarding the used videos that you were trading on ebay. Were they valuable? Sounds if they were treated as stock from a failed business. But why did you list your childrens bikes when they are not your possessions but theirs. I have never heard of peoples goods being taken away unless they are antiques or items that will fetch real money. They dont take them as a punishment. Are you sure the items taken were by people with the OR's authority? Or were they bailiffs with previous warrants that just happen to be executed at or around the same time as your bankruptcy? Like a coincidence?

You may think it is water under bridge by now but you should contact Myvesta immediately to see if you can get some legal advice and help.

You must be feeling horrible at the moment. HG may see this post and comment on it as he is knowledgable but get in touch with Myvesta right away. Their number is 0800 1116 885

HI Thomas thankyou for your reply im definately sure it was the reciever that executed it. He told me to box everything up and then got a local auctioneers to pick it up i asked those guys what happened with it they said it would go in lots at the local auction ! unfortunately i listed boys bikes on ebay and he said he wanted everything that was listed on ebay he requested my user name & password so he knew exactly what was listed !I explained to him i bought the videos 10 for £1 but he said he still wanted them ! Cab said that too they had never heard of this before. They say they think im being used as an example to others that nothing is safe not even videos !They then informed me that they were sorry but they didnt deal with people after the bankruptsy and told me to ring the business helpline i did and they said they didnt know what to do either so i rang ebay again they gave me a £1.50 per min number told me they would sort it i was on the phone to them for 20mins today out of desperation
for them just to send me a link to ebay in america who told me sorry we cant help you more expense for NOTHING !

Hi Jay

I realise it too late now but the bankruptcy examiners are not gods athough some probably think they are... You should have expressed your dissatisfaction with his decisions and insisted on communicating with the OR himself but I realise that the problem is that you are unlikely to have been made bankrupt before, didn't know the ropes and assume how you were treated was 'normal'. After auction fees were paid I cannot believe there was any real money for your creditors. If only one or more of the members on this site had known......

Please contact Myvesta and see if they can help you lodge some kind of complaint about the way you have been treated, even if it is merely to help others.

Hi Thomas no ive never been bankrupt before and never shall again lol I did think that was the norm you hear stories and i heard they did things like that but it has been a tuff lesson to learn the hardest pill to swallow is when people say well ive never heard of that but unfortunately i am living proof just wish i could find some way to sort ebay out as that was keeping us going ,ebay is good but there doesnt seem to be alot of people know what to do when you go bankrupt on there so if anyone out there can give me some advice i`d really appreciate it
